Ketamine Assisted Therapy

Beginning in 2023, I began training in order to support clients seeking Ketamine Assisted Therapy. First through Resilience Behavioral Health Solutions other learning opportunities. Currently, I’m pursuing a certification in Psychadelic Assisted Therapy through Fluence.

About: Ketamine was invented in the 1960s and has traditionally been used in higher doses as an anesthetic (for surgery) with children and adults. It has also been used during war times on the battlefield as an effective analgesic (pain medication).

In recent years, ketamine has been administered as an “off-label” treatment, per the FDA, for psychiatric conditions that have been resistant to currently available modalities such as medications and/or psychotherapy. For many, ketamine has been found to provide rapid, sometimes immediate relief of major depressive symptoms, including suicidal ideation; however, the degree and length of symptom relief is variable from patient to patient with some requiring few doses and others needing maintenance administration to experience ongoing symptom relief and remission.

As with other mental modalities KAT is not a magic bullet. The client’s ongoing personal work (e.g. lifestyle changes & ongoing integration therapy) are integral in the effectiveness of KAT and the duration of experienced improvements. – as part of a deeply supportive process that helps couples heal from relational trauma, rebuild trust, and restore emotional closeness and intimacy.

Creating a safe space for this kind of healing is essential—research consistently shows that humans are wired for connection, and strong, secure relationships are vital for both emotional and physical well-being.

Our Scope of Practice

Ketamine-Assisted Therapy: Scope of Practice

At Spot on Relationships, Ketamine-Assisted Therapy (KAT) is offered through a collaborative care model that prioritizes safety, clarity, and ethical practice. Each provider involved operates fully within their professional scope while working together to support your healing and relational growth.

As a licensed marriage and family therapist specializing in couples work, my role focuses exclusively on the psychotherapy aspects of KAT. This includes:

  • Therapeutic Intake & Assessment
Understanding your relationship dynamics, identifying patterns, and determining whether KAT is appropriate from a therapeutic perspective.

  • Preparation Sessions
Clarifying intentions, setting goals, building emotional safety, and preparing both partners for the expanded-state experience.

  • Therapeutic Support During Ketamine Sessions
Offering a grounded, trauma-informed presence to help you navigate insights and emotional material that may arise.

  • Post-Session Integration
Translating insights into action—supporting communication, attachment repair, behavioral shifts, and deeper connection.

  • Evidence-Based Couples Frameworks
Incorporating the Gottman Method, Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), and Lifestyle Medicine principles to support long-term relational change.

I do not prescribe, dose, or administer ketamine.
My focus is the mental, emotional, and relational components of your healing journey.

Ketamine is a Schedule III controlled substance. For your safety, all medical decisions are handled by licensed prescribing professionals, such as:

  • Medical Doctors (MD, DO)

  • Nurse Practitioners (NP)

  • Physician Assistants (PA)

These providers are responsible for:

  • Conducting medical evaluations

  • Screening for contraindications

  • Determining medical appropriateness for ketamine

  • Prescribing and dosing

  • Medical monitoring and safety oversight

They handle the medical side; I handle the therapeutic side.

KAT through Spot on Relationships follows a clear, structured sequence:

  1. Medical Evaluation
A prescribing provider ensures you are medically appropriate for ketamine treatment.

  2. Therapeutic Intake & Preparation
We clarify goals, identify relational patterns, and establish a safe therapeutic foundation.

  3. Ketamine Sessions
You receive ketamine through our medical partner while I guide the therapeutic component of the experience.

  4. Integration
We work together to stabilize insights, deepen connection, and implement lasting relational changes.

This integrative teamwork ensures a safe, ethical, and supportive experience from start to finish.

Ketamine can open a brief but powerful window of neuroplasticity—making it easier to shift long-standing relational patterns. Couples often use KAT to:

  • Heal attachment wounds

  • Break repetitive conflict cycles

  • Rebuild trust and emotional safety

  • Increase empathy and understanding

  • Strengthen intimacy and communication

My job is to help each partner use this window to create sustainable relationship change—not just insight.

KAT may not be appropriate in cases involving:

  • Certain medical or psychiatric conditions

  • Active psychosis, mania, or unstable mood states

  • Medical contraindications identified by the prescriber

  • Safety concerns that exceed outpatient care

If KAT isn’t the right approach, I collaborate with medical providers to ensure you receive alternative or additional support.

Ketamine-Assisted Therapy at Spot on Relationships is built on transparency, clinical integrity, and a commitment to relational healing. By partnering with qualified medical providers, we offer a treatment model that is both safe and therapeutically meaningful.
